BODY MASS INDEX

Calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) using the following equation:-

BMI = weight in kg / (height in m)2

E.g. A 70kg person who is 1.80m tall has a BMI of 21.6 (70/1.82)

BMI Categories:-

Below 18.5 - Underweight

18.5-24.9 - Normal

25-29.9 - Overweight

30-34.9 - Grade 1 obesity

35-39.9 - Grade 2 obesity

40+ - Morbid obesity

Note: The above values and chart below relate to the 'average' population. Some athletes may fall into the overweight or obese categories but be perfectly healthy, they fall into these categories due to a large muscle mass (e.g. throwers), not fat as in the 'average' population.
